Roblox shirt upload failed

Almost every failed classic clothing upload is one of five things: the image is not 585×559, the wrong asset type was chosen, the account is not ID verified, there are fewer than 80 Robux to pay the upload fee, or the item uploaded fine and cannot go on sale without an active Plus or Premium subscription.

Requirements last checked against Roblox’s own sources on 11 August 2026 · they changed on 14 July 2026, so anything older than that is describing a different system.

What Roblox requires right now

To upload at allID verification, or a linked parent account with it. Plus 80 Robux per submission.
To put it on saleAn active Plus or Premium subscription, and a 10 Robux publishing advance.
Image585×559 for shirts and pants. 512×512 for classic t-shirts.
FormatPNG or JPG. Use PNG — JPG has no transparency.

“Did you use the template?”

The image is not the right size. This message means the dimensions do not match what the asset type expects. A classic shirt or pair of pants must be exactly 585×559 pixels; a classic t-shirt is 512×512 and is a different thing entirely — it is a picture on a chest, not a garment wrapped round the body.

Resizing a finished design to fit is not a fix: the 18 regions have to land on the exact pixels Roblox samples, so scaling moves every face off its rectangle. Start from the correct template.

The upload worked, but it is the wrong garment

The asset type dropdown was left on the wrong entry. Shirt, Pants and T-Shirt are three separate asset types, and the dropdown does not follow the image. A shirt image uploaded as a t-shirt is accepted — it simply appears as a flat picture on the torso instead of wrapping the arms.

Nothing uploads, and the error mentions verification

The account is not ID verified. Since 14 July 2026, uploading any avatar item — 2D or 3D — requires verifying with a government ID, or through a linked parent account that has been verified. This is checked before the fee is taken, so a failure here costs nothing.

It uploaded, but it will not go on sale

Selling now needs an active Plus or Premium subscription. That is separate from uploading: without one you can create and wear an item, and the On Sale toggle stays out of reach. Putting an item on sale also costs a 10 Robux publishing advance, which is rebated back as the item sells.

Items that were already on sale went off sale

From 1 August 2026, previously published classic clothing was taken off sale if it did not meet the new requirements. Nothing was deleted — the items still exist and can be re-listed once the account meets them. If a catalogue of clothing stopped earning at the start of August, this is why, and it is not a moderation action.

It uploaded and looks wrong on the avatar

Not an upload failure — the file was accepted and the artwork is misplaced. The two usual causes are painting in the 54.9% of the template that never renders, and stopping artwork at the edge of a face so the 2px gutter leaves a pale fringe at the seams. Both are explained on the template page.

It was rejected by moderation

Moderation is a separate step from the upload itself, and it reviews the image, the name and the description. The upload fee is not refunded for a rejected item. Real logos, other people’s artwork and anything suggestive are the usual causes; a name or description can fail on its own while the image is fine.

Start from a template that is already the right size. Roblox Clothes Maker paints on the real 585×559 layout in your browser and exports a correctly sized PNG. Open the editor.
